How to Install a Steering Wheel Cover

Installing a steering wheel cover is not particularly difficult, but it can require a bit more effort than you might think. Be prepared to apply a little elbow grease – the fit has to be very tight to ensure safety on the road. If the steering wheel cover does not fit extremely tight, when you turn the wheel, only the cover would move.

To install your steering wheel cover, clean the wheel first to remove dirt. Next, center the cover correctly on the wheel (if the cover has a design). Place the upper edge of the cover over the wheel and work your way around. Wrap the cover around the steering wheel a few inches per side – you want to make equal progress on both sides. Keep one hand on the section of cover already installed to keep it from coming off.

When you approach the final portion of the cover, it will be tight, but it should slip on with sufficient pressure. Do not use a screwdriver or other tool to install the cover, as this can gouge the steering wheel or rip your cover.
